After London and Paris, the Metropolitan City of Milan is Europe's third most populated area. In fact, it has 133 municipalities, covering an area of 1,575 square kilometers with a resident population exceeding 3 million. It is an area rich in infrastructure and is configured as a single urban area that is increasingly extended and integrated. The role of the Milan Metropolitan City Administration ranges from spatial planning to transportation services, from provincial planning of the school network to data collection and processing, from school building management to the control of discriminatory phenomena in employment and promotion of equal opportunities. Among the most important functions is technical-administrative assistance to local governments.

Requirements

The Metropolitan City of Milan has been entrusted with the task of aggregating the large number of investments envisaged by the PNRR's lines of intervention in the territory. The Authority has moved from a phase of economic-financial scarcity to a condition of abundant resources, with the urgency of making significant investments quickly and with maximum efficiency. The financial offices therefore needed to equip themselves with a modern and flexible accounting tool that could best support the challenges: from accounting management to resource monitoring, from reporting to the MEF (Ministry of Economy and Finance) on projects related to the NRP to planning policies on the ground based on informed decisions, backed by reliable data.

The Administration of the Metropolitan City of Milan has chosen "CiviliaNext Contabilità" from Deda Next. A solution that is intuitive, rigorous in data management, flexible to new integrations and developments, and able to make the offices communicate internally, but also with the universe of the Public Administration. "CiviliaNext Contabilità" makes it possible to facilitate accurate data analysis by financial offices, to spread and harden the economic-financial culture of officials and managers of the Entity, and not least, to stay in line with the directives of the Digital Agenda. The choice of Milan Metropolitan City is in continuity with that of many other entities on the Lombardy territory that already use CiviliaNext.

The Result

In three months, 500,000 transactions were handled relating to the Milan Municipality area alone, and it is estimated that this could become around 3 million as payments from other municipalities in the province are gradually integrated. A key part of the development and success of the project was the training that involved 800 users of the Authority (from the administration office to welfare, up to the digitization and support department for municipalities).
